Sarah Harkins strives to create innovative design solutions that are sensitive to people and place. She embraces the challenge that art in architecture poses – to bridge from the conceptual to the physical.
Sarah’s natural aptitude for math and passion for art guided her decision to become an Architect – blending problem solving in a creative way. She attended Carnegie Mellon University, graduating with high design and academic honors from the school of architecture. Upon completion of her degree, Sarah worked for renowned architecture firms, Bohlin Cywinski Jackson and Kevin Daly Architects, delivering award-winning projects for clients such as Apple and Facebook in New York City.
Harkins’ design intuition spans beyond architecture, where her artistic abilities and minor in graphic design serve a very practical and regular application in her work. Through hand-sketching she explores iterative concept ideas, drawing inspiration from clients, nature and materials. She realizes the ensuing designs with standard construction techniques and dedicated research and development of new construction assemblies and technologies.
After arriving in Boulder, by way of New York and Los Angeles, Harkins shifted into the more intimate and tailored residential field, where her careful consideration of context and precise detailing brings a crafted response to complex design challenges.
