Before moving to Colorado, Preston attended Auburn University’s Rural Studio in his home state of Alabama. Here he studied and applied research into mass timber and alternative building ventilation systems, culminating not only in Rural Studio’s first masters degree, but also two built examples applying the research concepts and a published scientific journal article. Preston grew up in a family fascinated with racing, cars, and anything that moves, which naturally lead to a passion for taking things apart and understanding how they operate. This background, filtered through the lens of a formal architectural education, led Preston to the conviction that the key to great design is a deep understanding of all aspects of a project.
