Biography

Maximillian Burton is the Global Leader for Connected Products at Fjord where he focuses on a human centered approach to the integration of digital technology with the physical world

Maximillian’s career as an industrial designer spans thirty years as both a design consultant and an as an in-house designer for. Max has held leadership positions at Smart Design in New York, Nike in Portland and frog in San Francisco. Maximillian founded the design and innovation consultancy Matter in San Francisco in 2012. Matter was acquired by Fjord and its parent company Accenture in 2017.

Some of the more notable products Maximillian has worked on include over twenty houseware products for OXO International, the first XM satellite radio, the Nike+ hardware, Sonos smart speakers, MyMagic+ and the Disney Magic Band. During his leadership of Matter, Max and his team designed many innovative and iconic products including the Monarch Endoscopy robot, the Joy smart photo album, Cujo home IOT security device, the Abode home security system, Ferno Grill and the Carnival Medallion Experience.

Maximillian studied industrial design at the Manchester Polytechnic and the Royal College of Art in London. He holds 14 utility patents and numerous design awards. His products have been exhibited at the MOMA in NY the Design Museum in London and the Cooper Hewitt in NYC. Maximillian writes and lectures on the topic of design and technology
