When visionary architect Zaha Hadid died in 2016, she left behind a decades-long legacy of buildings and projects that spoke to her genius. She had been christened the “Queen of the Curve,” and one of her last designs is a perfect example of how she earned this moniker. The luxury residential building at 520 W. 28th in New York City is a striking departure from the hard angles that typically govern residential architecture, with winding curves and an interlocking chevron steel facade that make for a dramatic visual impact, both inside and out.
At this DDW session, Zaha Hadid Architects’ Filipe Pereira will provide a narrative of 520 W. 28th’s history, design strategy and build. The session will also focus on the project’s custom kitchen — COVE – a single material monobloc kitchen in a combination of selected finishes — that Zaha Hadid designed with, Boffi, the Italian manufacturer known worldwide for its kitchen, bathroom and storage solutions. Finally, attendants will be able to see and touch one of these innovative, state-of-the-art kitchens, which showcases Boffi’s exclusive design collaboration with Zaha Hadid Architects.
