Denver designer Lindsey Kruger has taken her skills on the road—to Kathmandu, Nepal. It’s all for a good cause: In addition to her work in Denver, Kruger founded the nonprofit NIVAS (it means “home” in Nepalese) to help poor communities get good health care, education and safe homes. Her biggest project: helping a remote Himalayan village rebuild after the devastating 2015 earthquakes. Kruger will talk about the challenges she and her team have faced—rough roads, an iffy power grid—while providing villagers with construction materials and teaching them about earthquake-resistant building. This talk will focus on the logistics of rebuilding a Himalayan village, from transporting building materials, crafting the appropriate design, detailing the design process and making a lasting impact on the lives of the new homeowners.
