The Severance Community Park pedestrian bridge is the first build completed for the town of Severance by Colorado Building Workshop. Led by CU faculty Rick Sommerfeld and Will Konig, students worked from August 2020 through June 2021 to design and build the 130-foot-long pedestrian bridge that connects the Great Western Trail across a drainage canal in Severance’s new community park. Design elements and material choices were carefully studied to create connections with rural Colorado while also offering a modern and forward-looking design that encourages the ongoing evolution of Severance’s growing infrastructure. Join these students in viewing a short documentary showcasing the design-build project and a presentation on their path to reaching a final design. A panel with students who worked on the build will follow the presentation.
